Possible Causes

Failed compressor start relay, Overheated compressor thermal protector, Low supply voltage, Faulty main control PCB relay

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power. Do not attempt to open the sealed refrigeration system. Work only on electrical components accessible from the service panel.

  • Check ventilation: Ensure the ice maker has adequate clearance around the sides and rear. Blocked ventilation can cause compressor overheating and E4 errors.
  • Inspect power supply: Verify the outlet voltage with a multimeter. Low or unstable voltage can trigger compressor protection. Avoid using long extension cords or power strips.
  • Access compressor compartment: Remove the rear lower panel to access the compressor, start relay, and overload protector.
  • Test start relay and overload: Disconnect the start relay/overload assembly from the compressor terminals. Shake the relay gently; if it rattles excessively or shows burn marks, replace it. Test continuity of the overload protector; if open at room temperature, replace it.
  • Reassemble and test: Refit the new relay/overload assembly, reattach the panel, and power on the unit. If the compressor still fails to start and E4 returns, the compressor or control PCB may be defective and professional service is recommended.
