Possible Causes

Blocked drain hose, Clogged internal drain channel, Failed drain pump, Faulty water level sensor or float switch

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power and close the water supply. Be prepared for water spillage when opening drain components.

  • Inspect external drain hose: Check that the drain hose is not kinked, elevated too high, or submerged in standing water. Straighten and reposition as needed to ensure a downward slope.
  • Clean drain outlet: Remove the hose from the rear drain connection and flush it with warm water to clear any scale or debris.
  • Access internal drain area: Open the ice bin and remove internal panels to access the water sump and drain outlet. Clear any ice, scale, or foreign objects from the drain opening.
  • Check drain pump operation: With the unit reassembled and powered, start a cycle and listen for the drain pump. If it hums but does not pump, it may be jammed; if silent, it may be failed. Unplug again, remove the pump, and check for obstructions in the impeller. Replace the pump if the impeller is damaged or the motor is open-circuit.
  • Inspect water level sensor: If the pump works but E6 persists, inspect the float switch or electronic water level sensor in the sump. Clean mineral deposits and ensure free movement. Replace the sensor if it does not change state when the water level changes.
