Possible Causes
Misaligned infrared bin sensor, Dirty sensor lenses, Faulty mechanical bin switch, Damaged sensor wiring harness
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the ice maker before working near sensors or wiring.
- Identify bin full sensor type: Many Amica ice makers use either an infrared (IR) optical sensor pair or a mechanical lever switch above the ice bin.
- Clean IR sensors: If your unit has small windows on each side of the bin, gently clean them with a soft cloth and mild detergent. Dry thoroughly. Dust or mineral film can block the beam and simulate a full bin.
- Check mechanical lever: If there is a plastic lever or arm, move it up and down to ensure it is not stuck by ice buildup. Clear any ice or debris around the lever pivot.
- Inspect wiring: Remove the front or side panel to access the sensor wiring. Check for loose connectors or damaged cables. Reseat connectors firmly.
- Test sensor function: With the unit powered, manually block/unblock the IR beam or move the lever while observing the display or listening for a relay click. If there is no response, replace the bin full sensor assembly.
