Possible Causes
Failed condenser fan motor, Fan blade obstructed by debris, Seized fan bearings, Loose fan motor connector
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before accessing the fan area.
- Inspect the fan: Remove the rear panel to access the condenser fan. Check for dust buildup, plastic wrapping, or wires touching the blades. Clear any obstructions.
- Spin the fan by hand: The blade should spin freely with minimal resistance. If it feels stiff, gritty, or does not move, the motor bearings may be seized and the motor should be replaced.
- Check wiring: Ensure the fan motor connector is fully seated on the harness and that no wires are damaged or burnt.
- Power-on observation: With the panel still off but keeping hands clear, plug in and start a cycle. If the fan does not start within a minute while the compressor runs, the motor is likely faulty.
- Replace the fan motor: Remove mounting screws, transfer the fan blade to the new motor if needed, and reinstall. Make sure the blade is not rubbing on any shrouds.
- Reassemble and test: Refit the rear panel and run the unit. If E9 persists with a known-good fan, the control board’s fan driver may be defective.
