Display shows E05; compressor does not start or stops shortly after starting.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power. Do not attempt to open the sealed refrigeration system. High voltage is present at the compressor terminals.
Steps:
- 1. Access compressor compartment: Remove the rear lower panel to expose the compressor, start relay, and overload protector.
- 2. Inspect start device: Remove the plastic cover on the compressor terminals. Check the PTC relay and overload for burn marks, melted plastic, or rattling pieces inside.
- 3. Test continuity: With a multimeter, test the overload protector for continuity. Replace if open at room temperature.
- 4. Check compressor windings: Measure resistance between the three compressor pins (C, S, R). Compare to service specs. A short to ground or open winding indicates a failed compressor (requires professional replacement).
- 5. Replace start relay/overload: If the compressor windings test good but the start device is damaged or out of spec, install a new Blomberg start relay/overload assembly.
If E05 persists and the compressor hums then clicks off, the compressor may be mechanically locked and should be evaluated by a refrigeration technician.
