Possible Causes
Blocked drain line or outlet, Failed drain pump motor, Obstructed pump impeller, Faulty drain sensor or pressure switch
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power. Have towels ready for water spillage.
Steps:
- 1. Inspect drain hose: Check the external drain hose for kinks, clogs, or incorrect elevation (too high can prevent draining). Clear any obstructions.
- 2. Access drain pump: Remove the lower front or rear panel to locate the drain pump. Disconnect the inlet and outlet hoses and inspect for debris.
- 3. Clean pump: Remove any ice chips, scale, or foreign objects from the pump housing and impeller.
- 4. Test pump motor: Measure resistance across the pump terminals. If open or shorted, replace the pump. If accessible, briefly power the pump with appropriate voltage (technician only) to confirm operation.
- 5. Check drain sensor: Some models use a pressure switch or sensor to detect water level. Inspect tubing for blockages and test the switch with a multimeter. Replace if faulty.
