Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before removing any panels or accessing wiring.
Basic checks:
- Power cycle: Unplug the unit for 10 minutes to allow the control board to reset. Plug back in and check if E4 reappears.
- Inspect sensor location: The evaporator thermistor is usually clipped to or near the evaporator plate/fingers. With the lid open, visually inspect for a small probe or sensor attached to the metal cooling surface. Ensure it is firmly attached and not hanging loose.
- Check for visible damage: Look for cut, pinched, or corroded wires leading from the sensor to the control board. Do not tug on the wires.
Advanced (technician recommended): The thermistor should be tested with a multimeter for correct resistance at room temperature and replaced if out of specification. This requires partial disassembly of the cabinet and access to the control PCB.
