Possible Causes

Scale buildup on ice thickness probe, Misadjusted thickness sensor, Defective ice thickness sensor, Loose connection to control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the unit before touching the evaporator or sensor probes.

Cleaning and adjustment:

  • Locate the thickness sensor: On many Bomann ice makers, a small metal or plastic probe sits near the evaporator fingers to detect ice thickness.
  • Descale the probe: Use a soft cloth soaked in a food-safe descaling solution (or a mix of water and white vinegar) to remove mineral deposits from the probe and surrounding metal. Rinse with clean water and dry.
  • Check mounting: Ensure the probe is firmly clipped in place and not bent away from the evaporator. It should be close enough to contact or nearly contact the ice during harvest.
  • Reset and test: Plug the unit back in, clear the error by power cycling, and run a full ice cycle to see if E7 returns.

When to call a technician: If cleaning and repositioning do not help, the sensor or control board may be faulty and require professional diagnosis.
