Possible Causes
Defective evaporator NTC thermistor, Open or shorted sensor wiring harness, Corroded connector on main control board, Failed main PCB temperature input circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the Brandt ice maker from the mains before opening any panels. Do not work on live circuits.
- Power reset: Disconnect power for 5 minutes, then reconnect and try a new cycle. Sometimes the control board will clear a transient E1 fault.
- Access the evaporator sensor: Remove the rear or side service panel (depending on model). Locate the evaporator coil and the small NTC sensor clipped or strapped to the evaporator tubing.
- Inspect wiring and connector: Check the sensor harness from the evaporator to the main PCB for cuts, pinched sections, or corrosion at the plug. Reseat the connector firmly.
- Test the sensor: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the sensor and measure its resistance with a multimeter. Compare to Brandt service specs (typically 5–20 kΩ at room temperature). If reading is open, shorted, or far out of range, replace the evaporator NTC sensor.
- Check the PCB input: If a known-good sensor still triggers E1, inspect the main control board for burnt components or cracked solder joints at the sensor input. Replacement of the main PCB is usually required if damage is found.
- Reassemble and test: Refit all panels, restore power, and run a full ice-making cycle to confirm the error is cleared.
