Possible Causes
Misadjusted ice thickness probe, Scale buildup on thickness sensor, Broken or corroded thickness probe wiring, Failed ice thickness control circuit on PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power and water before adjusting or cleaning the ice thickness sensor.
- Locate thickness probe: On many Brandt ice makers, a metal or plastic probe contacts the ice slab to determine thickness. Access it near the evaporator plate.
- Clean the probe: Remove mineral deposits with a soft cloth and a mild descaling solution. Rinse and dry thoroughly.
- Check adjustment: Follow the Brandt service manual to set the correct gap or position of the probe relative to the evaporator plate. Incorrect adjustment can cause thin or thick ice.
- Inspect wiring: Ensure the probe's harness is intact and firmly connected to the main PCB. Repair or replace damaged wiring.
- Test operation: Restore power and run a cycle. If E16 persists and ice thickness remains incorrect, replace the ice thickness sensor or the main control board if the sensor tests good.
