Possible Causes
Defective infrared ice level sensor, Misaligned ice bin level flap or optical sensor window, Broken or disconnected bin sensor harness, Failed bin sensor circuit on main PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect the ice maker from power before removing covers or the ice bin.
- Empty and reseat the bin: Remove the ice storage bin, empty any ice, clean and dry it, then reinstall it fully. Ensure it is seated correctly against the rear switch or sensor area.
- Clean the sensor area: If your Brandt model uses an infrared (IR) ice level sensor, gently clean the emitter and receiver windows with a soft cloth and mild soapy water. Dry thoroughly to remove condensation or mineral film.
- Check mechanical flap (if equipped): Some models use a mechanical lever or flap to detect a full bin. Make sure it moves freely and is not jammed by ice, plastic flashing, or debris.
- Inspect wiring: With power off, trace the bin sensor harness from the sensor to the main control board. Look for broken wires, loose connectors, or corrosion. Reseat the connector at the PCB.
- Test the sensor: Use a multimeter to check continuity or voltage change when the bin is full vs. empty (refer to Brandt service data). If readings do not change, replace the ice level sensor assembly.
- Control board check: If a new sensor does not clear E2, the bin sensor input on the main PCB may be defective and the board will need replacement.
