Possible Causes

Failed condenser NTC sensor, Blocked condenser coil causing overheating, Non-operational condenser fan motor, Main PCB misreading temperature input

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the unit before cleaning or servicing internal components.

  • Clean condenser coil: Pull the ice maker away from the wall. Remove the lower rear panel and vacuum dust from the condenser coil. Use a soft brush to remove stubborn debris.
  • Check condenser fan: Spin the fan blade by hand (with power off) to ensure it moves freely. Restore power briefly and confirm the fan runs when the compressor is on. Replace the condenser fan motor if it does not start or is noisy/binding.
  • Inspect condenser sensor: Locate the NTC sensor clipped to the condenser line or near the compressor. Check for loose mounting, damaged wires, or corrosion at the connector. Reseat the plug at the PCB.
  • Measure sensor resistance: With power off, test the sensor with a multimeter and compare to Brandt temperature-resistance charts. Replace the condenser NTC sensor if readings are incorrect.
  • Verify airflow: Ensure there is adequate clearance around the unit and that vents are not blocked by cabinets or other appliances.
  • Control board check: If a known-good sensor and fan still result in E5, the main control board may be misinterpreting temperature and should be replaced.
