Possible Causes
Dirty water filter or supply, Biofilm or scale in water trough and lines, Stale ice stored too long, Odors from nearby food or chemicals absorbed by ice
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit and close the water supply before cleaning. Use only food-safe cleaners.
- Discard old ice: Empty the ice bin completely and discard any ice that may have absorbed odors.
- Clean internal components: Remove the bin, water trough, and any removable parts. Wash with warm water and mild detergent, then sanitize with a food-safe sanitizer. Rinse thoroughly.
- Descale system: Run a full cleaning cycle with a Brandt-approved descaling solution to remove mineral buildup and biofilm from the evaporator and water lines.
- Replace water filter: If your installation uses a filter, replace it according to the schedule or sooner if taste issues occur.
- Check water source: Taste the tap water feeding the unit. If it has an odor, consider installing a better filtration system.
