Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit before accessing internal components. The evaporator plate can have sharp edges.
- Access the evaporator: Remove the front or top cover to expose the ice‑making chamber and aluminum evaporator plate.
- Locate the thermistor: Find the small sensor clipped or glued to the side or back of the evaporator plate with two thin wires leading to the harness.
- Inspect wiring: Look for cuts, pinches, or corrosion on the thermistor wires and connector. Reseat the connector at both the sensor and the main PCB.
- Check sensor placement: Ensure the thermistor is firmly attached to the evaporator surface; if it has fallen off, reattach using thermal tape or the original clip.
- Replace if faulty: If the sensor is physically damaged or tests open/shorted with a multimeter, replace it with a compatible Camry evaporator thermistor.
After reassembly, plug in the unit and run a full cycle. Persistent E3 indicates the thermistor or main PCB may still be faulty and may require professional diagnosis.
