Possible Causes
Defective hot gas solenoid valve, Faulty defrost temperature sensor, Blocked hot gas line, Main PCB defrost control failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before removing panels. Refrigerant components should not be opened by unlicensed persons.
- Observe the cycle: If possible, watch the unit run until it reaches the harvest stage. Listen for the click of the hot gas valve and check if ice releases from the evaporator.
- Check wiring to hot gas valve: Access the compressor compartment and locate the hot gas solenoid valve on the refrigerant line. Inspect its wiring harness and connector for loose or broken wires.
- Inspect defrost sensor: Locate the defrost or harvest sensor near the evaporator. Ensure it is firmly attached and wiring is intact.
- Reset the unit: Unplug for 5 minutes, then reconnect and run a test cycle to see if E4 clears.
- Do not open sealed system: If the valve coil is powered but not operating, or lines are iced heavily, the hot gas valve or sealed system may need replacement by a certified refrigeration technician.
