Possible Causes
Misaligned ice thickness probe, Scale buildup on thickness sensor, Broken thickness sensor harness, Failed ice thickness control board (if separate from main PCB)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the Camry ice maker and allow any ice on the evaporator to melt before working near moving parts.
- Locate the thickness sensor: In the ice‑making chamber, find the metal or plastic probe that senses ice thickness near the evaporator plate or grid.
- Clean the probe: Use a soft cloth soaked in warm water and a little food‑safe descaler to remove mineral deposits from the probe and surrounding area. Do not use sharp tools.
- Check alignment: Ensure the probe is positioned according to the service diagram (usually a set distance from the evaporator). Gently bend or adjust the bracket if it has been knocked out of place.
- Inspect wiring: Follow the probe wires back to the harness and main PCB. Reseat connectors and check for damage.
- Test operation: Reassemble, plug in, and run a cycle. If E5 returns, the thickness sensor or its control circuit may need replacement.
