Possible Causes

Defective cabinet NTC temperature sensor, Broken or loose NTC wiring harness, Corroded sensor connector on main PCB, Failed main control board sensor input

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the ice maker from the mains before opening any panels. Do not work on the unit while it is connected to power.

Step-by-step checks:

  • Power-cycle the unit: Unplug for 5 minutes, then plug back in and see if E1 clears. Temporary glitches can trigger sensor errors.
  • Access the sensor: Remove the rear or side service panel (depending on your Caso model). Locate the small probe-type sensor (NTC) clipped to the evaporator or inner cabinet wall, connected by two thin wires to the main PCB.
  • Inspect wiring: Check the NTC harness for cuts, pinches, or melted insulation. Ensure the plug is fully seated on the control board and free of corrosion or moisture.
  • Check sensor resistance (for advanced DIYers): With the unit unplugged, disconnect the NTC from the board and measure resistance with a multimeter. At room temperature (~20–25°C), most Caso NTCs read between 5–20 kΩ. An open circuit (OL) or 0 Ω indicates a bad sensor.
  • Clean and reseat connectors: Use contact cleaner or isopropyl alcohol on the sensor plug and board socket. Reseat firmly.
  • Replace the sensor if faulty: If resistance is out of spec or intermittent when you gently wiggle the wires, replace the cabinet NTC temperature sensor with a compatible Caso part.
  • Suspect the control board: If a known-good sensor still triggers E1, the main control PCB may have a failed sensor input and should be replaced by a qualified technician.
