Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.

Possible Causes
Defective PTC start relay, Failed compressor motor windings, Shorted compressor wiring, Faulty compressor relay on main PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the ice maker and allow the compressor to cool before touching. Only attempt electrical tests if you are comfortable working with mains voltage.
Steps:
- Listen for compressor behavior: When starting a cycle, you may hear a click and brief hum followed by a stop. This often indicates a start failure.
- Access compressor terminals: Remove the rear panel and the plastic cover on the compressor. Inspect the PTC start relay and overload protector for burn marks or loose fit.
- Check wiring: Ensure all wires to the compressor and relay are firmly connected and not charred.
- Replace PTC/overload: If the relay rattles when shaken or shows signs of overheating, replace the compressor PTC starter and overload protector as a set.
- Measure compressor windings (advanced): With power disconnected and wires removed from the compressor, measure resistance between the three terminals. Values should be finite and consistent with a small hermetic compressor. An open or shorted winding indicates a failed compressor.
- Control board relay: If the compressor never receives power (no voltage at terminals when commanded on), the main control board relay may be defective and require replacement.
- Professional repair: If the compressor windings are faulty, the compressor must be replaced by a refrigeration technician; this is not a typical DIY repair.
