Possible Causes
Failed compressor start relay, Open overload protector, Low line voltage, Locked rotor compressor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Unplug the unit. Compressor terminals carry high voltage; only proceed if you are comfortable using a multimeter around line voltage.
- Check line voltage: Verify proper voltage at the outlet under load. Low voltage can cause start failures and E08.
- Inspect start device: Remove the start relay and overload from the compressor terminals. Shake the relay gently; if it rattles or smells burnt, replace it.
- Test overload: Measure continuity across the overload protector. If open at room temperature and not resettable, replace it.
- Check compressor windings: With all wires removed, measure resistance between C-R, C-S, and R-S terminals. Compare to Electrolux specs. Very high or zero readings may indicate a failed compressor.
- Replace start device: Install a new OEM Electrolux start relay/overload kit. If the compressor still fails to start and windings test poorly, professional compressor replacement is required.
