Possible Causes

Blocked ice full sensor window, Misaligned infrared emitter/receiver pair, Failed ice full sensor board, Loose sensor wiring harness

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the ice maker before cleaning or adjusting internal sensors.

Steps:

  • 1. Empty the ice basket: Remove all ice from the storage bin. Overfilled bins can keep the full sensor triggered.
  • 2. Clean the sensor lenses: Locate the ice full sensor near the top of the ice bin (often a small window or pair of lenses). Use a soft cloth dampened with warm water to gently clean both sides. Dry thoroughly.
  • 3. Check for obstructions: Make sure no plastic parts, labels, or ice pieces are blocking the sensor path between the emitter and receiver.
  • 4. Verify alignment: Ensure the two halves of the sensor (emitter and receiver) are directly facing each other. If a bracket is bent, gently straighten it so the beam path is clear.
  • 5. Inspect wiring: Remove the side or rear panel to access the sensor wiring. Confirm the connector is fully seated on the sensor board and on the main control PCB. Look for damaged wires.
  • 6. Test operation: Plug the unit back in and start a cycle. When ice reaches the sensor, the unit should stop making ice; when ice is removed, it should resume. If E4 persists, the sensor assembly may need replacement.
