Possible Causes

Stuck ice shovel or sweep arm, Stripped harvest motor gears, Failed harvest motor, Obstructed ice path preventing arm movement

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the unit before reaching into the ice-making area. Moving parts can cause injury.

Steps:

  • 1. Inspect ice shovel/arm: Open the lid and locate the ice sweep arm or shovel that pushes ice into the basket. Check for jammed ice cubes or foreign objects blocking its movement.
  • 2. Defrost stuck ice: If ice is frozen solid to the evaporator and holding the arm, unplug the unit and allow it to defrost completely. Do not use sharp tools to chip ice off the evaporator.
  • 3. Manually move the arm: Gently move the arm through its range of motion. It should move smoothly without grinding or binding. If it feels rough or loose, the motor or gears may be damaged.
  • 4. Access harvest motor: Remove the internal cover over the ice-making assembly to expose the harvest motor. Check that mounting screws are tight and the drive linkage is intact.
  • 5. Test motor operation: With the unit reassembled and powered, observe whether the arm moves during the harvest phase. If the motor hums but does not turn, or does nothing and E9 appears, replace the harvest motor assembly.
