Possible Causes

Empty water reservoir, Kinked or blocked water inlet hose (if plumbed), Faulty water level sensor, Mineral buildup on water level probes

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the Gastroback ice maker before opening any panels or touching internal components. Never work on the unit while it is connected to mains power.

Step-by-step checks:

  • Check water reservoir: Remove the reservoir (or open the lid) and fill with clean, potable water up to the MAX line. Do not overfill.
  • Inspect water inlet (if your model has a hose connection): Ensure the tap is fully open, the hose is not kinked, and the inlet filter screen is not clogged with debris. Rinse the filter under running water.
  • Clean water level sensor/probes: On many Gastroback countertop ice makers, metal level probes or a float sensor detect water level. Carefully wipe the probes or float with a soft cloth soaked in a 1:1 mix of white vinegar and water to remove scale. Rinse with clean water and dry.
  • Reset the unit: Reassemble, plug the unit back in, and press the power button. If your model has a dedicated RESET button, hold it for 3–5 seconds to clear the error.

If E1 returns immediately with a full tank and clean probes, the water level sensor assembly may be defective and should be replaced.
