Possible Causes

Blocked infrared ice-full sensor, Misaligned mechanical ice-full lever, Faulty ice-full sensor board, Broken sensor harness connector

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect the ice maker from the mains before cleaning or adjusting sensors.

Steps to resolve:

  • Empty the ice basket: Remove all ice from the storage bin. An overfilled bin can trigger the full sensor.
  • Clean the ice-full sensor: Many Gastroback ice makers use an infrared emitter/receiver pair near the bin opening. Wipe both lenses gently with a soft, lint-free cloth. If there is heavy scale or residue, use a damp cloth with mild dish soap, then wipe dry.
  • Check mechanical lever (if equipped): Some models use a plastic lever that rests on the ice pile. Make sure it moves freely and is not jammed by ice or bent out of shape.
  • Inspect wiring: With the unit unplugged and top cover removed (if accessible), visually inspect the small harness going to the sensor board. Ensure connectors are fully seated and not corroded.
  • Reset: Reassemble, plug in, and power on. Clear the error by turning the unit off and back on or using the reset function if available.

If E2 persists with an empty, clean bin and free-moving lever, the ice-full sensor board likely needs replacement.
