Possible Causes

Faulty evaporator temperature sensor (NTC), Poor thermal contact between sensor and evaporator plate, Refrigerant leak or low charge, Failed compressor start relay

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the unit. Do not attempt to open the sealed refrigeration system or handle refrigerant unless you are a licensed technician.

Basic user checks:

  • Allow cooling time: If the unit has been running continuously, switch it off for 30 minutes to cool down, then restart. Overheating can trigger temperature faults.
  • Ventilation: Ensure at least 10–15 cm clearance around the sides and back of the Gastroback ice maker. Blocked vents cause overheating and temperature errors.
  • Clean condenser: If accessible, gently vacuum dust from the condenser grill/fins at the back or underside of the unit.

Sensor-focused checks (for advanced users):

  • Remove the top cover (if your model allows) and locate the small sensor clipped to the evaporator plate. Ensure it is firmly attached and not hanging loose.
  • If the sensor is corroded or the wires are damaged, it should be replaced as a complete NTC sensor harness.

If E3 persists after ensuring good ventilation and checking the sensor, the fault may be in the sealed system or control board. Contact a qualified service technician.
