Gastroback Insufficient Ice Formation / Poor Freeze Quality

Ice maker produces ice, but cubes are very small, hollow, or melt quickly.

Possible Causes

High ambient temperature around unit, Dirty condenser coil, Low refrigerant charge, Scale buildup on evaporator reducing heat transfer

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug before cleaning coils or internal parts.

Steps:

  • Relocate unit: Move the Gastroback ice maker away from ovens, dishwashers, or direct sunlight. Ideal ambient temperature is typically 15–25 °C.
  • Clean condenser: Vacuum or brush dust from the rear/underside condenser coil to improve heat rejection.
  • Descale evaporator: With the unit unplugged, gently clean the evaporator fingers/plate using a soft cloth and a mild descaling solution (e.g., diluted vinegar). Rinse and dry.
  • Adjust ice size: If your model allows, select a larger cube size to increase freeze time.

If ice quality remains poor despite good ventilation and cleaning, a refrigeration performance issue may exist and should be evaluated by a technician.
