Possible Causes
New plastic components not flushed, Dirty water reservoir, Biofilm or scale in water circuit, Use of non-potable water
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug before extended cleaning.
Steps:
- Initial flushing (for new units): Discard the first 2–3 full baskets of ice.
- Deep clean reservoir: Wash the reservoir with warm water and mild dish soap. Rinse thoroughly.
- Run cleaning cycle: Fill the tank with a solution of 1 part white vinegar to 3 parts water. Run a full cleaning or ice-making cycle, then discard all ice and drain.
- Rinse: Refill with fresh water and run at least one more full cycle, discarding the ice.
Always use fresh, potable water. Persistent bad taste after thorough cleaning may indicate contamination in internal hoses, which may need replacement.
