Ice maker runs but makes a loud grinding or clicking noise during the harvest cycle.

Safety first: Unplug the unit before inspecting moving parts.

Steps:

• Inspect tray area: Open the lid and watch the tray during a cycle (with power on initially). If you hear grinding when the tray tilts, note the position, then unplug.
• Check for obstructions: Remove the ice basket and look for broken plastic pieces, ice chunks, or foreign objects around the tray pivot points and drive gear.
• Manual movement test: With power off, gently move the tray through its range. If it binds or feels rough, the gear or motor may be damaged.

If noise persists after clearing obstructions, the tray motor/gearbox assembly should be replaced to prevent further damage.
