Possible Causes
Infrared ice level sensor blocked by ice or dirt, Mechanical bin switch stuck, Sensor misaligned, Faulty bin full sensor module
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before reaching into the ice bin or sensor area.
- Empty the ice bin: Remove all ice from the storage bin. Check for large clumps of ice bridging under the ice level sensor or pressing against a mechanical bin switch.
- Clean the sensor: If your Gram ice maker uses an infrared ice level sensor, gently clean the emitter and receiver lenses with a soft cloth and warm water. Do not use abrasive cleaners.
- Check mechanical switch (if fitted): Some models use a mechanical bin arm or microswitch. Move the arm up and down; it should move freely and click. If it sticks, clean away ice and mineral buildup. If the switch does not click or feels loose, it may be faulty.
- Inspect wiring and alignment: Ensure the sensor modules are firmly mounted and facing each other correctly. Check the wiring harness for damage or loose connectors at the sensor and control board.
- Replace faulty sensor: If cleaning and reseating do not clear E3, replace the Gram ice level sensor assembly or bin full microswitch as applicable.
