Possible Causes
Condenser fan motor seized or worn, Fan blade obstructed by debris, Fan motor wiring loose, Faulty main control PCB fan output
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit before accessing the rear or side panels.
- Access the condenser fan: Remove the rear service panel to expose the condenser coil and fan assembly.
- Check for obstructions: Spin the fan blade by hand. It should rotate freely without scraping. Remove dust, plastic wrap, or insulation that may be blocking the blade.
- Clean the condenser: Use a soft brush or vacuum to clean the condenser fins. Restricted airflow can overheat the system and trigger fan errors.
- Inspect wiring: Check the fan motor connector and wiring harness for loose plugs or damaged insulation. Reseat the connector at the motor and control board.
- Test and replace fan motor: If the fan does not run when power is restored and E4 persists, test the fan motor with a multimeter for continuity. A failed motor should be replaced with a compatible Gram condenser fan motor.
