Possible Causes
Drain pump blocked by debris, Drain hose kinked or elevated too high, Drain pump motor failure, Blocked internal drain channel
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power and, if possible, close the water supply before working on the drain system.
- Check external drain hose: Ensure the drain hose from the Gram ice maker slopes continuously downward to the drain point and is not kinked or crushed. The outlet height must be within the manufacturer's limits.
- Inspect for clogs: Remove the hose from the drain connection and flush it with warm water to clear scale or debris.
- Access the drain pump: Remove the lower front or rear panel to locate the drain pump assembly. Place towels or a shallow tray under the pump to catch water.
- Clean the pump and sump: Remove the pump cover (if accessible) and clear any ice chips, scale, or foreign objects. Check the impeller spins freely.
- Test the pump: With the unit reassembled, briefly power on and listen for the pump during the drain phase. If it hums but does not pump, or is silent, test for voltage at the pump terminals (only if you are trained to work on live circuits). Replace the Gram drain pump if it is not operating correctly.
