Possible Causes
Defective evaporator thermistor, Broken or shorted thermistor wiring harness, Poor thermistor contact with evaporator surface, Faulty temperature sensing circuit on main control PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the ice maker before removing covers or touching internal components.
- 1. Reset the unit: Disconnect power for 10–15 minutes, then reconnect and try again. Temporary sensor glitches can trigger E2.
- 2. Access the evaporator area: Remove the top or side cover to expose the ice-making chamber. Locate the evaporator plate (cold metal grid) and the small sensor (thermistor) clipped or glued to it.
- 3. Inspect the thermistor: Check that the thermistor is firmly attached to the evaporator surface and not hanging loose. Reclip or secure it with thermal tape if needed.
- 4. Check wiring and connector: Follow the thermistor wires to the control board. Ensure the connector is fully seated and there are no cuts or pinch points in the cable.
- 5. Clean ice and frost: If the evaporator is heavily iced over, allow the unit to defrost completely (leave unplugged with the lid open for several hours) and then restart.
- 6. Replace thermistor if needed: If E2 returns immediately and you have a multimeter, test the thermistor resistance at room temperature (typically 5–20 kΩ depending on model). If open or shorted, replace the thermistor with an H.Koenig-compatible part.
Warning: Do not chip ice off the evaporator with sharp tools; you can puncture the refrigerant circuit.
