Possible Causes
Defective ice full sensor (infrared or mechanical lever), Misaligned ice basket or ice shovel, Broken sensor bracket or obstruction blocking sensor beam, Faulty sensor input on control PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect the appliance from power before inspecting moving parts.
- 1. Empty the ice basket: Remove all ice from the storage bin and ensure the basket is correctly seated.
- 2. Check the ice full sensor: On many H.Koenig ice makers, the ice full sensor is an infrared pair (emitter and receiver) on opposite sides of the bin, or a mechanical lever above the basket. Clean the sensor windows with a soft cloth to remove condensation or scale.
- 3. Inspect for obstructions: Make sure no ice cubes or plastic parts are blocking the sensor or lever. Verify the ice shovel/arm can move freely during harvest.
- 4. Reseat connectors: Remove the cover and trace the sensor wiring to the control board. Reseat the connector and check for damaged wires.
- 5. Test operation: Plug the unit back in and start a cycle while observing the sensor area. If E3 reappears and the sensor is clean and aligned, the sensor assembly may need replacement.
Warning: Keep fingers clear of the ice shovel and moving arms when the unit is powered.
