Possible Causes

Defective ice shovel position micro switch, Jammed ice shovel or mechanical linkage, Broken or misaligned cam on ice shovel shaft, Damaged wiring between micro switch and main PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power before reaching inside the ice-making compartment or removing covers.

Steps to address E2:

  • 1. Inspect for physical jams: Open the lid and look at the ice shovel (the metal or plastic arm that sweeps ice into the basket). Remove any large ice chunks or foreign objects blocking its movement.
  • 2. Manually move the shovel: With power off, gently move the shovel through its range. It should move smoothly without binding. If it feels stuck, check for bent metal, misaligned bushings, or ice buildup around the evaporator fingers.
  • 3. Check the position switch: Locate the small micro switch or sensor that detects the shovel’s home position (often near the gear motor or cam). Ensure the actuator lever is not bent and that the cam on the shovel shaft actually presses it.
  • 4. Inspect wiring: Follow the two or three wires from the micro switch to the main control board. Look for broken conductors, loose connectors, or signs of overheating. Reseat the connector on the PCB.
  • 5. Test the micro switch: Using a multimeter in continuity mode, disconnect the switch and operate it by hand. It should open and close reliably. If it stays open or closed regardless of position, replace it.
  • 6. Replace faulty parts: If the switch is bad, install a compatible HOMCOM ice shovel position micro switch. If the cam or linkage is broken, replace the ice shovel assembly or cam gear as specified for your model.
  • 7. Reassemble and test: Refit covers, restore power, and start a cycle. Confirm the shovel moves and the E2 code does not reappear.

Note: If the switch and mechanics are fine but E2 persists, the main PCB input circuit may be faulty and require professional replacement.
