Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit. Do not attempt to open the sealed refrigeration system yourself; refrigerant work must be done by a licensed technician.
Steps to address E5:
- 1. Improve ventilation: Ensure there is at least 10–15 cm (4–6 in) of clearance around all sides and the back of the ice maker. Do not operate it inside cabinets or enclosed spaces.
- 2. Clean the condenser: Remove the rear panel to access the condenser coil and fan. Use a soft brush and vacuum to remove dust and lint from the coil fins and fan blades. Do not bend the fins.
- 3. Check the condenser fan: Spin the fan by hand (with power off). It should rotate freely. If it is seized or noisy, replace the condenser fan motor.
- 4. Inspect the compressor overload protector: The small device clipped to the compressor terminals may be faulty. Check for signs of burning or cracking. If you are comfortable, you can replace it with a compatible HOMCOM compressor overload/relay kit.
- 5. Allow cooling time: Let the unit sit unplugged for at least 30–60 minutes to allow the compressor to cool, then plug it back in and test.
When to call a technician: If E5 returns quickly, the compressor may be drawing excessive current or the refrigerant system may be restricted or low. These conditions require professional diagnosis and repair.
