Possible Causes

Burned-out ice making gear motor, Stripped gear in motor assembly, Jammed mechanical linkage, Faulty motor drive circuit on main PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power before working near the motor or gear assemblies.

Steps to address E6:

  • 1. Check for obstructions: Open the lid and look for ice chunks or foreign objects around the ice shovel or rotating tray. Remove any obstructions.
  • 2. Listen for motor operation: With the unit briefly powered and running a cycle, listen for the motor attempting to run (humming or clicking). Then unplug again before touching anything.
  • 3. Access the gear motor: Remove the side or top cover to expose the ice making gear motor assembly. Inspect the gears for broken teeth or misalignment.
  • 4. Test the motor: Disconnect the motor wires and measure resistance across the motor terminals. An open circuit indicates a failed motor. If you have the skills, you can also briefly power the motor with a suitable low-voltage test supply to confirm operation (only if you understand electrical safety).
  • 5. Replace the gear motor: If defective, install a HOMCOM-compatible ice making gear motor assembly. Transfer any cams or brackets from the old motor to the new one as needed.
  • 6. Inspect the PCB connector: Ensure the motor connector on the main control board is firmly seated and not burnt.
  • 7. Reassemble and test: Refit covers, restore power, and run a full cycle to confirm normal operation and that E6 is cleared.

Note: If the motor tests good but does not receive power, the main control board may be faulty and should be replaced by a professional.
