E8 error; unit may not fill with water or may overfill and then stop with an alarm.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the ice maker and drain water before removing hoses or the pump.
Steps to address E8:
- 1. Check water level and quality: Ensure the reservoir is filled to the correct level with clean water. Avoid using very hard or dirty water.
- 2. Listen for pump operation: During the initial part of the cycle, the circulation pump should run with a soft humming sound. If it is silent or very loud, suspect a pump issue.
- 3. Inspect and clean filters: Remove the reservoir and look for a small mesh filter or screen at the pump inlet. Rinse it under running water to remove debris.
- 4. Check hoses: Access the internal hoses leading from the reservoir to the pump and from the pump to the evaporator tray. Straighten any kinks and ensure connections are tight.
- 5. Bleed air from the system: After reassembling, fill the reservoir and tilt the unit slightly backward and forward (with power off) to help release trapped air bubbles from the pump.
- 6. Test the pump: If you have a multimeter, check for proper voltage at the pump terminals when the unit calls for water (use extreme caution and only if you are trained). If voltage is present but the pump does not run, replace the pump.
- 7. Replace the water pump: Install a HOMCOM-compatible circulation water pump, ensuring correct orientation and secure hose clamps to prevent leaks.
Note: If the pump and hoses are fine but E8 persists, the main control board’s pump driver circuit may be faulty and require professional service.
