Possible Causes

Failed compressor start relay, Open thermal overload protector, Seized compressor, Faulty main control board compressor driver

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect the appliance from mains. Work on refrigeration components only if you are qualified; sealed system work requires a licensed technician.

  • Listen for compressor: When powered, the compressor may click repeatedly without running. This often indicates a failed start relay or overload.
  • Access compressor terminals: Remove the rear lower panel to expose the compressor. Carefully remove the plastic cover over the terminals.
  • Check start relay and overload: Disconnect the start relay and overload protector. Shake the relay gently; if it rattles or smells burnt, replace it. Test continuity of the overload with a multimeter; an open overload must be replaced.
  • Measure compressor windings: With power off and wires removed, measure resistance between the three compressor pins. Values should be finite and consistent with the service manual. A short to ground or open winding indicates a failed compressor.
  • Control board output: If the compressor and start components test good but never receive power, the main control board may be defective and should be replaced.
  • Call a professional: If the compressor is seized or windings are faulty, the sealed system must be serviced by an F‑gas certified technician.
