Possible Causes
Misadjusted ice thickness probe, Scale buildup on probe, Failed ice thickness sensor, Broken sensor wiring
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before working near the evaporator or ice plate.
- Locate thickness probe: On many Indesit ice makers, a metal or plastic probe contacts the ice sheet to determine thickness before harvest.
- Clean the probe: Remove limescale and mineral deposits using a food-safe descaler and soft cloth. Ensure the probe surface is smooth and free of buildup.
- Check adjustment: Some probes are adjustable via a screw. Refer to the service manual and set the correct distance from the evaporator or ice plate.
- Inspect wiring: Follow the probe wiring back to the control board. Repair any damaged insulation and reseat connectors.
- Replace sensor if faulty: If cleaning and adjustment do not resolve E16, replace the ice thickness sensor/probe assembly.
