Possible Causes
Failed drain pump motor, Blocked drain hose or pump inlet, Faulty drain level sensor, Loose wiring to drain pump
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Unplug the ice maker and be prepared for water spillage when opening the drain system.
- Check the drain hose: Inspect the external drain hose for kinks, clogs, or improper elevation. Gravity-drain models must have a continuous downward slope.
- Access the drain pump: Remove the lower front or rear panel to locate the drain pump assembly. Place towels or a shallow pan under the pump.
- Clean the pump inlet: Disconnect the inlet hose and check for debris, scale, or ice blocking the impeller. Clean thoroughly.
- Test the pump motor: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the pump wiring and measure motor resistance. An open circuit indicates a failed pump.
- Inspect drain sensor: Some Kenmore models use a float or sensor in the drain reservoir. Ensure it moves freely and is not coated with slime. Clean or replace as needed.
- Reassemble and test: Restore power and run a clean or drain cycle to verify that E11 clears and water drains properly.
