Possible Causes
Failed water inlet valve coil, Clogged inlet screen or low water pressure, Faulty water level sensor or float switch, Wiring issue between valve and control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Unplug the ice maker and turn off the household water supply before servicing the water system.
- Check water supply: Verify the shutoff valve to the ice maker is fully open. Ensure the supply line is not kinked. Confirm household water pressure is at least 20–40 psi.
- Inspect inlet valve screen: Remove the rear access panel to locate the water inlet valve. Disconnect the supply line and inspect the valve's inlet screen for sediment. Clean with a soft brush if clogged.
- Test the valve coil: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the valve wiring and measure coil resistance with a multimeter. Compare to the spec on the tech sheet. Replace the valve if the coil is open or shorted.
- Check water level sensor/float: Locate the float switch or water level sensor in the reservoir. Make sure the float moves freely and is not coated with scale or slime. Clean with warm water and mild detergent.
- Reassemble and test: Restore water and power. Run a test cycle. If E3 persists after confirming water supply and valve operation, the water level sensor or control board may need replacement.
