Possible Causes
Faulty bin level thermistor, Failed infrared bin sensor, Bin sensor blocked or misaligned, Control board not responding to bin full signal
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Unplug the ice maker before accessing the bin sensor or control board.
- Check for obstruction: Make sure ice is not piled up against the sensor window or physically blocking a mechanical bin arm.
- Clean sensor lenses: For IR-style sensors, gently clean the emitter and receiver lenses with a soft, dry cloth.
- Test sensor function: Many Kenmore models allow entering diagnostic mode to test bin sensor status. Follow the tech sheet to verify that the control sees bin FULL when you block the sensor.
- Replace defective sensor: If the sensor never changes state, replace the bin level sensor or thermistor with the correct OEM part.
- Control board check: If a known-good sensor does not stop production, the main control board may be faulty and require replacement.
