Possible Causes
Obstructed ice tray movement, Failed ice tray stepper motor, Faulty tray position micro-switch or Hall sensor, Loose tray motor wiring to main control PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect the appliance from the mains before opening any panels.
- 1. Check for physical obstructions: Open the lid and inspect the ice tray / evaporator tray area. Remove any misaligned ice cubes, broken plastic, or foreign objects that could block the tray from tilting or sliding.
- 2. Reset the unit: Empty the ice basket and water reservoir. Unplug the ice maker for 10 minutes to allow the control board to reset. Plug back in and start a new cycle. If E2 clears, the issue may have been a temporary jam.
- 3. Access tray motor: If E2 persists, remove the side or bottom cover (depending on model) to access the ice tray motor assembly and its position sensor (micro-switch or Hall sensor). Check for loose mounting screws or bent linkages.
- 4. Inspect wiring: Follow the motor wiring harness to the main control PCB. Ensure all connectors are fully seated and there are no pinched or broken wires.
- 5. Manual movement test: With power off, gently move the tray through its range of motion. It should move smoothly without binding. If it binds, realign the tray or its support brackets.
- 6. Replace faulty components: If the motor does not run when powered (requires electrical testing) or the position sensor does not switch, replace the ice tray motor assembly or tray position sensor as appropriate. If you are not comfortable with electrical tests, contact a technician.
