Possible Causes
Failed evaporator NTC thermistor, Loose or corroded NTC connector, Damaged sensor wiring harness, Faulty main control PCB temperature input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the Lakeland ice maker before removing covers or touching internal components.
- 1. Access the evaporator area: Remove the top or side cover to expose the evaporator plate / grid. The evaporator NTC sensor is usually clipped or bonded to the evaporator surface with a small metal clip or thermal paste.
- 2. Inspect sensor placement: Ensure the sensor is firmly attached to the evaporator surface and has not fallen off or moved away. Re-clip or reattach it if loose.
- 3. Check wiring and connectors: Trace the sensor cable back to the main control PCB. Look for damaged insulation, kinks, or signs of moisture ingress. Reseat the connector on the PCB.
- 4. Dry any condensation: If the sensor or connector is wet, gently dry with a lint-free cloth and allow the unit to air dry for 30–60 minutes before reassembly.
- 5. Reset and test: Reassemble the covers, plug the unit back in, and run a test cycle. If E3 returns quickly, the sensor may be out of specification.
- 6. Replace the NTC sensor: Obtain a compatible evaporator NTC temperature sensor for your Lakeland model. Disconnect the old sensor from the PCB, remove it from the evaporator, and install the new one in the same position, ensuring good contact with the metal surface.
- 7. Control board consideration: If a new sensor does not resolve E3, the main control PCB may have a defective sensor input circuit and should be replaced by a professional.
