Possible Causes

Overheated compressor, Failed compressor start relay, Faulty compressor overload protector, Low mains voltage or unstable power supply

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the unit. The compressor and surrounding components can be very hot—allow to cool before touching.

  • 1. Improve ventilation: Ensure the ice maker has at least 10–15 cm clearance on all sides and is not placed near ovens, radiators, or direct sunlight. Poor ventilation can cause compressor overheating and E5.
  • 2. Check mains supply: Plug the unit directly into a wall socket, not an extension lead or multi-way adaptor. Avoid sharing the circuit with heavy appliances. If your supply is unstable, use a surge-protected outlet.
  • 3. Inspect compressor area: Remove the rear panel to access the compressor, start relay, and overload protector. Look for signs of burning or melted plastic on the relay/overload housing.
  • 4. Listen for clicking: When powered, a rapid clicking from the compressor area can indicate a failing start relay or overload. If you hear this, the compressor start relay and overload protector should be tested and likely replaced.
  • 5. Clean condenser coil: Dusty condenser fins increase compressor load. Gently brush and vacuum the condenser coil to improve heat dissipation.
  • 6. Replace start components: If you are competent with electrical work, replace the compressor start relay and overload protector as a set, using parts specified for your Lakeland model. If the compressor still fails to start, the compressor itself or the control PCB may be defective and require professional service.
