Possible Causes
Dirty water reservoir, Bacterial growth in hoses and pump, New plastic odour from cabinet, Use of flavoured or carbonated water
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug before deep cleaning. Use food-safe cleaners only.
- 1. Use fresh water: Always fill the reservoir with fresh, cold, potable water. Do not use sparkling or flavoured water.
- 2. Thorough cleaning: Drain the unit and clean the water reservoir, ice basket, evaporator plate, and internal surfaces with warm water and mild detergent. Rinse thoroughly.
- 3. Disinfect water path: Run a cleaning cycle with a diluted food-safe sanitiser or white vinegar solution, then rinse with several full reservoirs of clean water, discarding the ice.
- 4. Air out new units: For new Lakeland ice makers, run several cycles and discard the first batches of ice to remove new-plastic odours.
- 5. Replace hoses if needed: If odour persists, consider replacing the silicone water hoses and thoroughly cleaning the circulation water pump.
