Possible Causes
Failed compressor, Loss of refrigerant charge, Severely blocked condenser coil, Faulty main control PCB not powering compressor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit. Sealed system work must be done by a certified refrigeration engineer.
- 1. Listen for compressor: Plug in briefly and start a cycle. Listen at the back: if the compressor is silent and not vibrating, it may not be receiving power or may be failed.
- 2. Check fan and condenser: Ensure the condenser fan runs and the condenser coil is clean. Clean dust and debris thoroughly.
- 3. Feel evaporator: After 10–15 minutes of operation, carefully touch the evaporator plate (through the ice compartment). It should be very cold and starting to frost. If it remains at room temperature, there is a cooling system issue.
- 4. Inspect for leaks: Look for oily spots on copper tubing, which can indicate a refrigerant leak.
- 5. Electrical checks: If you are competent, test whether the compressor is receiving mains voltage when it should be running. If not, the main control PCB or start relay may be faulty.
- 6. Call a professional: For compressor replacement, refrigerant leaks, or PCB diagnosis, contact an authorised service technician. These repairs are complex and often not economical on small ice makers.
