Mineral buildup on evaporator plate, Scale in water lines and pump, Dirty reservoir and sensors

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off and unplug the ice maker before starting a cleaning cycle.

Cleaning procedure:

  • Drain the unit: Open the drain plug or hose at the back/bottom and empty all water.
  • Prepare cleaning solution: Mix a manufacturer-approved ice maker cleaner or a 1:1 solution of white vinegar and water.
  • Fill reservoir: Pour the solution into the water tank up to the MAX line.
  • Run cleaning mode: If your NewAir model has a CLEAN button, press and hold it as directed in the manual to start the automatic cleaning cycle. If not, run several ice-making cycles and discard the ice.
  • Manual wipe-down: Gently wipe the evaporator plate, ice basket, and interior surfaces with a soft cloth soaked in the cleaning solution. Do not use abrasive pads.
  • Rinse thoroughly: Drain the solution, refill with fresh water, and run at least one full cycle. Discard the first batch of ice.

Reset indicator: Follow the manual (often pressing and holding CLEAN or POWER) to clear the CLEAN reminder.
