Possible Causes

Failed infrared ice level sensor, Misaligned ice full sensor bracket, Disconnected or damaged sensor wiring harness

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power before reaching inside the ice bin or removing covers.

Steps to address E2:

  • Check for actual full bin: Empty the ice basket completely and restart the unit. If E2 remains, continue.
  • Locate the ice level sensor: On many NewAir countertop ice makers, the sensor is an infrared pair (emitter and receiver) near the ice chute or bin opening. On some undercounter models, it may be a mechanical lever switch.
  • Clean the sensor: Wipe the sensor windows or lever area with a soft cloth dampened with warm water. Mineral deposits or frost can block the beam or jam the lever.
  • Inspect alignment: Ensure the emitter and receiver face each other directly and that mounting brackets are not bent. Adjust gently if misaligned.
  • Check wiring: With power unplugged, verify the sensor harness is firmly connected to the main PCB and that no wires are pinched or broken.
  • Replace if defective: If cleaning and reseating do not clear E2, replace the ice level sensor assembly with a NewAir-compatible part.

Note: If a new sensor does not resolve E2, the control board may not be reading the sensor correctly and may require replacement.
