Possible Causes

Faulty harvest position switch, Stuck or misaligned ice shovel/harvest arm, Broken harvest motor cam not actuating switch

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the unit before working near moving parts such as the ice shovel or harvest arm.

Steps to troubleshoot E4:

  • Observe harvest mechanism: With the cover removed (and power briefly applied), watch the ice shovel or harvest arm. If it stalls or never reaches its home position, E4 may trigger. Unplug again before touching anything.
  • Check for obstructions: Remove any jammed ice cubes or foreign objects around the shovel, arm, or ice chute.
  • Inspect the harvest switch: Locate the small microswitch or sensor that detects the home position of the shovel/arm. Ensure the actuator lever is not bent and that the cam on the motor shaft can press it.
  • Test the switch: With a meter, check continuity while manually pressing the switch. Replace if it does not open/close correctly.
  • Check wiring: Confirm the switch harness is firmly connected to the control board and not damaged.
  • Replace faulty parts: If the switch or harvest motor cam is worn or broken, replace the harvest switch or harvest motor assembly as needed.

Tip: After repair, clear the code by unplugging for several minutes, then run a full cycle to verify that the shovel returns to home without errors.
