Possible Causes
Stuck ice tray mechanism, Faulty ice tray motor, Broken tray position sensor or microswitch, Ice buildup around tray pivot
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before reaching into the ice-making area.
- Inspect ice tray: Open the lid and check if the metal evaporator fingers or tray are jammed with oversized or fused ice cubes. Remove loose ice with a plastic utensil (never use metal tools).
- Defrost the tray area: Leave the lid open and the unit unplugged for 30–45 minutes to melt any ice blocking the tray movement. Place towels to catch water.
- Check for foreign objects: Ensure no packaging material, broken plastic, or utensils are obstructing the tray or sweep arm.
- Restart cycle: Plug the unit back in and start a new ice cycle. Observe whether the tray rotates or the evaporator fingers move during harvest.
- If E5 persists: The tray motor or position sensor is likely defective and must be replaced. This involves removing the top housing and accessing the drive mechanism.
